Careers

Nothing open right now. If you make clothes or photographs and want to be on file, write to support@ramkthrift.space with a link to your work. We keep them and go back through them when something opens.

What this place is

A small team making its own clothes in short runs. Everyone here touches the product: the person who answers your email is often the person who packed the parcel, and the person who chose the fabric is in the same conversation as the person photographing it.

That is the appeal and it is also the catch. There is no department to hand something to.

Who we tend to take on

  • People who make things. Pattern cutters, machinists, photographers, writers who can describe a garment without using the word elevated.
  • People who notice. A shoulder seam sitting half an inch wrong is the kind of thing that has to bother you.
  • People who will say when something is bad. A short run can be changed before the next one, but only if somebody says so while it is still a draft.

Formal qualifications are useful and are not the thing we look at first. What you have made is.

What to send

Write to support@ramkthrift.space with:

  • A link to your work. A portfolio, a site, an album, a shop you ran. Anything we can look at.
  • A paragraph on what you actually did on it. Not the team's work, yours.
  • What you are looking for: full time, freelance, a project.

No cover letter in the formal sense. A paragraph written like a person is worth more than a page written like an application.

What happens to it

It is read, by a person, usually within a week.

If there is nothing open we will say so plainly rather than leave you waiting. We keep what you sent and go back through it when something does open, and people have been hired from that file months later.

If you would rather we did not keep it, say so and we will delete it. That is your right and it costs you nothing to use it.

Freelance and one-off work

We commission photography, writing and pattern work between runs. This is the commonest way somebody starts working with us.

If that is what you want, say which and send the closest thing you have done to it.

What we will not do

  • Unpaid trials. If we ask you to make something, you are paid for making it.
  • Spec work in place of a brief. A test piece is a test piece and is commissioned as one.
  • Hold your work without telling you. Ask at any time what we still have and we will tell you, or delete it.
